FAQs

Individual Consultations

  • Individual consultations are held at Core Collective Anson (79 Anson Road, Level 22, Singapore 079906).

  • In our intake session with you, we aim to find out more about your specific sleep difficulties as well as your treatment goals. This assessment will allow our therapist to suggest the best course of action for your needs.

  • A course of CBT-I usually lasts 6-8 weeks, and you should expect to see improvement in your sleep by this time. Under this therapy, you will learn how certain patterns of thought and behaviour lead to difficulties falling and staying asleep. Our therapists will then work with you to break these habits. We may also teach you how to practice good sleep hygiene and/or relaxation techniques.

You can find more detailed information about CBT-I here.

  • CBT-I is currently recognized as the first-line treatment for insomnia by the National Institutes of Health and the British Medical Association. It is safer than using medication, and often provides a more lasting solution to insomnia.

  • A course of CBT-I may include some sleep hygiene education, but this is not the focus of the therapy.

  • As clinical psychologists, we cannot prescribe medication under Singapore law. However, we work closely with partner psychiatrists and can refer you to them if we feel that you would be helped by taking medication, or if that is your preferred treatment option.

  • Mindfulness-based therapy consists of guided mindfulness practices such as paying attention to your breath or the sensations in your body, and discussions on your experiences during the practices. We will also teach you behavioral strategies that you can use at home to improve your sleep.

  • Our treatment does not have religious content, and those of any religion are welcome to attend. The mindfulness exercises that we teach are those used in secular practice.
